The Somebody’s top albums of 2010 (it’s a big list)

The Somebody spent the last month or so compiling this list of albums that she feels are the best albums of 2010. They are not ranked, because ranking albums is a fool’s errand. Instead, they are listed in alphabetical order. My contribution was to gather the web site links for each band, and listen to some of the albums when asked for my opinion.

The list is weighted toward newer bands. The main genres are indie-rock, indie pop, indie folk, americana/alt country, straight rock, a smattering of electronica. It’s very light on dance. There is no r&b, hip-hop, metal, ambient, experimental or straight country. And definitely no polka.

This is not a slam on genres that are not included, but reflective of the genres she listens to and has a deep knowledge of.

I’ve added a parenthetical note if the web site has uber-annoying autoplay sound issues. Wherever possible, the link goes to the band’s individual web site. Where I could not find a web site, the MySpace page was linked. Perhaps someday I’ll write something about the wide “variety” of band web sites out there. For now, enjoy the list (and you can find samples of the albums on blip.fm at #2010bystarla):
