Over the holiday, The Somebody and I were able to catch a show at Johnny Brenda’s, an awesome eatery/live music venue in Philadelphia (if you go, the food and local brews are worth experiencing). The lineup was Amen Dunes, Purling Hiss, and Kurt Vile. All three bands have roots in Philly.
Amen Dunes started the night off. This is a video from a show in Brooklyn for their song “Diane.”
The Somebody describes their music as “lo-fi psychedelia, droning, with ethereal vocals – almost using the vocals as an instrument.”
Influences: acid, trance, folk, acoustic, surf, ambient.
And here’s a video of the song “White Lace” from the Johnny Brenda’s show.
Side note: I spoke briefly to the ADs drummer at the JB’s show, complimenting him on the performance, and he said it was the first time he and the guitarist had performed together. Pretty good for a first effort together. Check them out if you get a chance.
We’ll post more about the other bands in the show soon.
