Welcome to the new blog. In this space, the Somebody and I will be reviewing songs from a variety of sources, but mainly from Blalock’s Indie/Rock Playlist. For those not familiar, BIRP releases a monthly list of approximately 120 new songs by artists you may have never heard of. You too can get access to the monthly playlist (for streaming or download) by registering at the link above (it’s free!).

We will be listening to each song (as long as we can stand it) and providing our opinions about the ones that grab our attention.
While we’re editing our first batch of reviews, we wanted to share one band whose song we really liked from the September 2010 BIRP playlist (yes, we know we’re behind!): Bronze Leaf.
The song on the playlist was “Shell,” which we liked for Amy Macdonald’s pure, gentle vocals. The guitar work was understated, and the song gathered strength as it went along. After hearing the song, we were definitely interested in hearing more from this band.
Fortunately, you can hear the song “Shell” on the band’s MySpace page, or, even better, you can download a (free as in beer!) copy of BL’s debut album, “Breadcrumbs,” here (click the huge “DOWNLOAD ALBUM” link). You can thank us later.
AWS, if you can read this, comments are functional!
